Cowboy Culture Extravaganza | October 17, 2009 at Sunol Regional Wilderness
This year’s Cowboy Culture Extravaganza will be held Saturday, October 17 at the EBRPD’s Sunol Regional Wilderness. Planned as a one-day celebration of the heritage and culture of the American Cowboy, the festival will feature cowboy music and poetry amidst a beautiful outdoor setting. Come enjoy hayrides, pioneer crafts, food for sale, local history information, a program on cattle grazing in the park district and demonstrations with a Western theme. Come see pioneer cooking skills such as horehound candy making and Dutch-oven cooking, or try your hand at apple cider pressing and ice cream cranking. Arts and crafts will include fun history-based projects for the kids, such as stick-ponies, branding and old-fashioned whirligigs.
Sunol Regional Wilderness has a rich ranching heritage. Five local ranchers currently lease lands at Sunol Regional Wilderness, Ohlone Regional Wilderness and Mission Peak Regional Preserve. EBRPD tenants and staff will be on hand at the festival to provide information to the public on the practices of grazing, and its benefits under proper stewardship management within our public lands.
Entertainment:
Cowboy poets Lynn Owens, Wendy Brown-Barry, Madison Seamans, Dylan Marchetti will perform. Musical entertainment by Nick Isaak and the Country Classics Cowboy Band, Campbell Creek Gang (Fiddle).
